the fifoam story

Sea Dragon Botanicals, is a specialised contract manufacturer of soap and skincare based in Albany on the south coast of Western Australia. It is a small, family business owned by Jasper Trendall and Lindy Leggett. It was started 1995 and we have been manufacturing soap and skincare for almost 30 years. There isn't really any substitute for hands-on experience and the quality of our products reflects a process of continuing improvement and evolution over time.

In 2021 we were asked by an innovative insect farming company in Perth (Future Green Solutions - now Arvela) if there might be a way to use the oil that they were harvesting from farmed Black Soldier Fly Larvae in personal care products like skincare and soap. The oil was a natural fit for soap.

That was the beginning of fifoam - a soap that is made using oil harvested from farmed insects. The quality of the soap was a real surprise. Insect oil makes very high quality soap. The fact that it is so sustainable is an added bonus. The products have been developed and tested with consumers over four years and the feedback has been exceptional.

It is such a simple thing. Bugs to bubbles. The insects convert organic waste into protein, oil and fertiliser and the oil is used to make soap.

It is a great example of environmental sustainability that involves no compromise in quality or function. You can use a better soap and help make the planet cleaner in two ways. Less organic waste buried in landfill and a new kind of soap that makes cleaning easy and affordable.
